Sivros Stone Cottages

Sivros – Dafni – Karouchas

The beauties of our region, its trails and paths between springs, torrents and pristine landscapes wait for you to discover them.

The spring of Daphne, one of the most important springs of the village, is located at its southern part, at a dreamy landscape. The verdant ravine, which starts from the highest point in the village and the maintained stone path that leads from the main road to the source is just the beginning of an impressive hike.

The route through the gorge with the same name continues to the south at a magnificent landscape of wild vegetation, with smells and colors that change according to the season.

There we find ruins of old watermills (there were several in the village in the past, highlighting the role of water in this region), cool ponds that host crabs and frogs, dragonflies, we will meet small and slightly larger, but impressive waterfalls, with their gargling waters on our side accompanying us.

On our way along the ravine, we meet the restored spring of Antelikos, the southern part of our route and also one of the most important springs in the area.

Then with a southwestern direction we approach the Karoucha torrent and we walk within its bed at the opposite direction of the water flow. Our route is flat and easily accessible at the beginning, it needs special attention later. The small longitudinal natural dams that we initially encounter, gradually become larger, the large stones sculpted by the rushing waters, create amazing natural sculptures and foreshadow the wild beauty of the landscape that follows.

Along the way we meet another spring, Ambelos, while the exit from the ravine is by climbing the highest and perhaps most impressive rock composition of the route. This requires a lot of attention and experience.

At our exit from the torrent bed, the cave of Karouchas with its local myths awaits us. Then we follow the carriage road in the direction of Sivros to happily end our hike.

In contrast to the gorge of Daphne, that of Karouchas is of third level of difficulty and is not recommended for the passage of individual hikers, inexperienced people and those who have difficulty walking.

It should be noted that this route, at the part that is in the bed of the Karoucha torrent, is not suitable after rain and in the winter season.

The route is circular with starting and finishing point the central square of Sivros (A. Panagouli Square). Residents of Sivros Stone Cottages start and end their hike from the property. Its total length is around 5 km and it takes about 04.00 hours to complete, while it is characterized with a level of C’ difficulty.

There is a choice for a light meal, for anyone who wishes so, at selected points of the route or for the guests of Sivros Stone Cottages at the garden after the end of the activity. Lunch is provided by collaborating local catering businesses with extra charge.
