Sivros – Vournikas – Agios Ilias

The old forgotten paths that connected the villages were once roads of life and traffic. Now their routes are revived and you can enjoy hiking on them along with the beauty of nature that they offer generously.

Sivros, the village that will host you, Vournikas and Agios Ilias are neighboring villages built on the southern slopes of the mountain range of Elati. They are surrounded by nature with unique alternations in landscapes, rich with fresh water and places of amazing view.

The route connects the first two villages through an old path that starts from the beautiful spring of Kerasia. Agaves, wild olive trees, cypresses and other local wild vegetation try to hide the view that you will enjoy a little later.

Upon entering Vournikas village, you pass through old neighborhoods reminiscent of an open air folklore museum, from the spring of Gazaina, one of the most important in the village, you meet small churches on your way to reach the northernmost source, Klimatsa for a few minutes of rest before you start ascending.

Easy, with a wide trail, the ascent compensates with the amazing view you enjoy, the wild flowers you meet, the scents of thyme, blackberry and sage.

At the top awaits a wonderful green meadow pasture, a breathtaking view and after a bit of rest the route continues highlighting wonderful locations and panoramic views to the east of the island.

After that you continue to the third village of the route, Agios Ilias, where just before the entrance you are greeted by the ruins of an imposing windmill.

The descent towards Sivros, passes through the spring Archontiko and offers ample views to the south part of the island and the opposite islands.

The route is circular with starting and finishing point the central square of Sivros (A. Panagouli Square). Residents of Sivros Stone Cottages start and end their hike from the property. Its total length is around 7 km and it takes about 3.00-3.5 hours (with breaks) to complete. (level of difficulty 2).

There is a choice for a light meal, for anyone who wishes so, at selected points of the route or for the guests of Sivros Stone Cottages at the garden after the end of the activity. Lunch is provided by collaborating local catering businesses with extra charge.

The routes are carried out by a collaborating local professional guide. The tour is in Greek or English and the guide has certified first aid skills and specific knowledge.

All protection and safety measures for covid-19 are strictly followed throughout the route.

Exercise in the natural environment requires special care to avoid minor accidents and is always done with the choice and personal responsibility of the participants.

Necessary basic equipment (trekking or sports shoes, sportswear, hat, 1 lt of water, snacks, mobile phone). The use of walking sticks is recommended.
